Guitar Strings

The string is the vibrating element that produces sound in guitars. They are usually made of a flexible material such as nylon which is kept tense so that they will vibrate. Guitar strings can also be made of steel, or sometimes have a core of one material with other materials wound around the core.

Strings work with frets to create specific tonal vibrations. The musician uses the frets to change the tone by lengthening or shortening the vibrating. By pushing the string against the fret board so that it vibrates only between where the finer is placed and the bridge, the vibrating and corresponding tone shift.

Strings can be individually tuned according to desire and preference. Learning how to do this is an important part of learning to play the guitar. You can position your fingers in all the right positions but it won’t matter if your guitar is out of tune.
