Bass Guitar

The electric bass guitar became popular during the 1950’s because of its compact nature when compared to the standard double bass. Since then, the electric bass guitar has in most cases replaced the upright bass in most popular music bands.

Similar in appearance and construction to the electric guitar, the bass has a larger body, a longer neck, and generally four strings. Those strings are thicker, and are typically played primarily with the fingers or thumb. They are tuned to the same pitches as those of the double bass.

Though less glamorized than the guitar, the bass guitar is just as much a staple of most bands, whether in rock, metal, country, jazz or blues.  In addition to the standard four-string bass, there are also five- and six-string basses, fretless basses, and custom basses with extended range.
